Databases are more efficient than paper storage in that they take up less space, also the database is accessed easily by multiple users at once and can be transferred to long distances with no delay. Databases allow for data to be shared across the world instead of being housed in one location on a physical piece of paper.

There are different types of databases that can be used in real-world operations. Flat file databases include generally plain text files which are used by local applications to store data. Flat files database systems are not as popular as relational databases. The relational database is the type of database with related tables of information. Each table has a number of columns or attributes and a set of records or rows. Relational database systems are popular because of their scalability, performance, and ease of use.

Flat databases

It is the type of database which is flat, it means that each line can hold only one record. These are commonly used in the form of plain text. They are very simple in a format that’s why easily accessed when required, this makes them useful for simple tasks.

Hierarchical Databases

This type of database represents the tree-type structure and a very good in an association like Windows File Explorer. To explain the hierarchical database model, we can use the parent and child structure that means a parent can have as many children as both wants, but each child has only one parent. The most famous hierarchical database is the IMS (Information Management System), created by IBM.

Relational Databases

The widely used database type is relational database mostly used in website designing. In the relational database system information is easily stored and the data is stored in the form of tables. More information can be easily added without re-organization of the tables. In a relational database, there can be an unlimited number of tables, each table containing different, but co-related, information. If the database is created this database can have several tables to keep different sets of information. These tables should not be in the same structure, like hierarchical database, since they are equally important types of database.

Because banks store their customer information and balances in a database, you can use any branch for deposits and withdrawals.
